Crystals have been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I remember at a young age going to conventions with my parents and sitting through workshops on crystals. I remember learning an invocation at a young age to cleanse crystals and have used it ever since. I learned the “rules” in regards to handling crystals that have become a part of my mindful practice. Working with crystals in a variety of ways and wearing them is a daily habit. However, crystal grids is something new to me.
Growing up, I do not recall ever having been exposed or been aware of crystal grids. Over the past few years, as I have delved deeper into my work with crystals, I have seen beautiful grids shared through social media channels. At different events, I have seen grids you could buy but never really put much thought into it.
All of that changed after taking a class with Natalija Kyle, a local clinical herbalist, reiki master, certified yoga teacher and holistic healthcare practitioner. She offers a Crystals 101 and 102 course through Desert Sage Herbs. I was a little hesitant to take the course, because I felt like I already knew a lot about crystals. My mom took the Crystals 101 and loved everything about the course so much (including the instructor), she immediately signed both of us for Crystals 102 as soon as the first course ended.
During the Crystals 102 course, I was excited to learn about making gem elixirs and learned more in depth about how the characteristics of the crystals, such as shape, influence the crystals’ energetic properties. Natalija ended the evening with a little portion on Crystal Gridding. She went over the basics and talked about how you could incorporate different elements such as flowers into the grid. She also showed how you can use a pattern such as a mandala to create the grid or just create it free form. The most important thing about creating a crystal grid, however, is your intention.
Over the course of the week following, my mom and I visited several crystal shops. At Everything Just Rock’s newly expanded location, we encountered the most beautiful selenite plate that had the flower of life etched into the top. My mom and I both went home with one and I felt incredibly grateful that I found this beautiful plate to create my first grid just in time for the Pisces New Moon.
My first lay out was me taking some of my chakra palm crystals and placing them on the plate. It was ok, but lacked the intention and focus that I felt it needed. I took some time to get clear on what I wanted my intention to be. I wrote it down on a Post-It note and folded it up in a small square. I then collected different crystals I found throughout the house of a particular colors and sizes to support my intention. The center picture above shows you how I put the initial pieces together to create my grid.
After becoming clear and setting my grid with intention, I found myself stopping in the living room and staring at the grid. I quickly realized the beauty of a crystal grid to act as a reminder of the intention set. I then found different items catching my eye calling to me to add them to the grid in a meaning filled way. I added the rose to represent feminine grace and beauty, the leaves to signify turning over a new leaf with the New Moon, lavender to remind me the importance of retaining my calm nature. My son’s vial of 24kt gold caught my eye and he graced me with permission to add it to the grid to attract in abundance. I love how as the days have gone on my crystal grid has evolved. I love how it keeps my intention in the front of my mind. I am excited to see how the weeks progress and how my intentions turn out.
After my first class with Natalija, I ran into her at another course that we both were attending as participants. The more I get to talk to her, the more I enjoy her. I highly recommend any one interested in learning about crystals to take a class from her. I am also planning on becoming her Reiki student, so I am sure you will hear more about her as my journey continues to unfold.
Update:
My mom just shared with me her first crystal grid. I, of course, had to share with you her beautiful creation.
